Huawei P9 Launched In London On April 6th

Earlier this month, Huawei posted a teaser for what appeared to be an event that was taking place in Berlin on March 9th. At the time, it appeared that at this event the manufacturer would unveil the Huawei P9, and the three other variants that are expected to be available along with it. But today, a new invitation has been disseminated by the company that actually contains a giant hint that links it to the P9.

The invite contains a few little clues, including the hashtag #o o which is believed to represent the rumoured dual-camera sensor hardware, something we're hearing a lot about on a selection of new and forthcoming smartphones for 2016. As well as saying we should "save the date", the invite hints that it will "change the way you see the world", again likely a camera reference.

Huawei P8 range last year was one of the biggest efforts ever made by the Chinese manufacturer to make its own brand presence known in international markets. 12 months, a smartwatch and a Nexus launch later, and it's safe to say that its mission to hit the big time outside Chinese borders has been a success. That means the Huawei P9 launch is taking place against a completely different backdrop, and will need to work harder to impress.

The P9 is expected to sport a 5.2-inch 1080p display, Huawei's own Kirin 950 chip, a 3900mAh battery, a fingerprint reader, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The company may also offer a premium version with 4GB of RAM and a faster Kirin 955 processor, along with a cheaper P9 Lite and a super-sized P9 Max or P9 Plus.

Also rumored is the possibility of multiple P9 models being announced: the regular P9, a larger P9 Max, and smaller P9 Lite. Of course, we wont know for certain until April 6th, so mark your calendars. If the performance of any of these devices matches the Huawei Mate 8 — which we reviewed last month — we could have another great Android device on our hands.
