Huawei Mate 9 Lite Price, Specs, Release Date

Weeks after the launch of the Huawei Mate 9 and the Mate 9 Pro in China, the company unveiled the Mate 9 Lite on its website but without any details on the availability or pricing just yet. Arguably the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world hasn't prepared some kind of distinctive event for this model, deciding instead to secretly unleash it on its list it as it debuts today online.

According to the spec sheet on Huawei’s English website, the Mate 9 Lite has a 5.5-inch 1080p screen. That’s the same size as the Mate 9 Pro and Porsche Design version but with the 1920×1080 resolution of the larger Mate 9. There is a model with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage but also an option for 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of storage, again matching the Mate 9. The 3,340 mAh battery is, of course, lower but not obscenely so.

Akin to the other Mates, the Mate 9 Lite also features a dual rear camera setup. But, this time around the Leica lens is absent. Also, the megapixel count is downgraded to 12MP + 2MP instead of 20MP + 12MP sensors. The 8MP camera on the front still remains the same, though.

Overall, the Huawei Mate 9 Lite certainly lives up to its name in more ways than one, but is still a strong midrange phone. Availability and pricing are still unknown at this point, though it might be safe to assume the Chinese market is one destination. When it does launch, the phone will be available in gold, gray, and silver.
